Privacy

This site does not store anything about you unless you say it may. There is no login, no form, and no advertising network. If you decline measurement, or simply ignore the bar at the bottom of the page, nothing is written to your browser and nothing about your visit reaches us.

If you accept measurement

We load Google Analytics 4, which sets two files in your browser: _ga and _ga_G-11N4X37YYG. They exist to tell whether you are a returning visitor rather than a new one. They expire after two years. We ask Google to truncate your IP address before it is stored.

What we see as a result is aggregate and unremarkable: how many people visited, which pages they opened, roughly which country they were in, and whether they arrived from a search engine or a link. We do not see who you are, and we do not attempt to find out. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

Google acts as our processor for this and may transfer data outside the UK under its standard contractual clauses. Their own account of it is in the Google privacy policy.

Photos you send to catsafe

One of our applications, catsafe, asks you for a photo of a plant so it can tell you whether that plant is toxic to cats. That photo is the only content any of our sites asks you to send us, so it is worth being precise about what happens to it.

The photo is passed straight through to Pl@ntNet, a plant-identification service run by a French research consortium, which identifies the species and returns a ranked list of candidates. Pl@ntNet acts as our processor for that step and handles the image under its own terms and privacy policy.

We do not keep the photo. It is held only for as long as it takes to answer your request, is never written to a database, and is never linked to you — there is no account, no login and no identifier attached to it. There is nothing for us to hand back, delete or sell later, because nothing is retained.

Because the image leaves our servers, please photograph the plant rather than the room: avoid including people, faces, documents or anything else you would not want to send to a third party.

Changing your mind

You can withdraw permission at any time, and it takes effect immediately — the files above are deleted when you decline.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you may ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or erased, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. In practice, a visit to this site with measurement declined leaves us holding nothing at all.
